Seizures in Sleeps

I started having seizures in my sleep when I was 13 years old. Yes they are terrifying. It is rare that they’ll kill someone but it is possible. I wanted to share some tips on how to prevent them from being deadly or what’s helped me over the years.

1- find medications that’ll work for you. If your taking a certain medication that doesn’t work, try another. It took my doctors a few different medications before I found a combination that works.

Tegertol and Keppra have worked the best for me.

2nd Make sure, you don’t have anything near your head at night. (Blankets, night stands)

3- Try to relax before you go to sleep. Trust me I know having seizures in your sleep can make your anxiety levels high before bed. But find something to take your mind off seizures. I personally watch movies and Pray.

Update From Last Night

I didn’t have any seizures but I did end up taking Tegertol. (can’t remember if I mentioned that in the previous blog) I know the medications getting out of my system could’ve caused the seizures the other night.

My plan tonight is to take a half Tegertol and a half tomorrow. If I have issues this weekend, I’ll go to my doctor on Monday & least get my Tegertol refilled. Fingers crossed I don’t have any issues though.

Tapering Off My Seizure Medications

Last night was the first night I started to tapper off of my medications.

Last Night I only took two Tegertols and 1 half Keppra.

Since I knew my anxiety was going to be very high I took two extra Buspar so it would help my anxiety. I also took 3 Fish Oil Omega

Today my dad went an bought me a bottle of CDB oil and one for my grandma (she has dementia) so I won’t be using something she really needs)

I’ll write more about how tonight goes, almost all of my bad seizures happen in my sleep. So that’s why nighttime is my biggest concern as my seizure medications leave my system but I’m trying to stay positive

The Journey Begins

Thanks for joining me!

Hi, I want to share a little backstory

  • When I was 7 years old I was diagnosed with partial seizures. My doctors medicated me with tegertol. When I was about 14-16 years old my doctor started giving me Clonzapan (I had absolutely no idea of the side effects of clonzapan or how addictive it is.
  • About 5 years ago I started having a lot more issues with my seizures, I was also having a lot more stress. One of my hospital visits, my neurologist mentioned I might have pseudoseizures instead of Epilepsy seizure like I had previously believed. Well I had know idea what pseudoseizures were, when they told me, I was making the seizures happen, well I refused to believe this, matter fact I was offended. Fast forward a year later, I was hospitalized again for about 2 weeks, they did a full week of a EEG, and they told me this time, I have both, epilepsy and pseudo seizures. So they medicated me again with Keppra 500 twice a day, Tegertol 200 Milligrams twice a day and the biggest poison of them all Clonzapan. Yes I know Clonzapan does control seizures really well however the side effects are horrible.

Last year, I decided to seek help for my depression and anxiety, they gave Zoloft 150 milligrams a day and Buspar 10 milligrams 3 times a day. My anxiety medications have helped my seizures so much ! So it brought me more understanding of what my doctor’s told me about pseudo seizures.

I also take care of my grandma who has dementia & a few times when my seizures were causing me issues I’d use her CBD oil and it worked faster than my tegertol.

Here lately I’ve been researching about CBD oil and I’ve read how it’s helped people with seizures. I decided I wanted to document my experience with going off my seizure medications & using CBD oil.

I am praying it works because My medications have caused me so many issues with the side effects since I was 7!

Btw I’m dyslexic so grammar isn’t my best subject and sorry this was so long 😘
